RADIOGRAPHIC TESTING FILM INTERPRETATION (RTFI)
Radiographic Film Interpretation (RTFI) is one of the frequently used Nondestructive Testing methods. Radiographic films are exposed to radiation under controlled conditions and film/image formation occurs on the basis of radiation absorption on film.Exposed films are then developed in the darkroom where the density of the film is displayed in different degrees of black and white. Developed films are viewed on a special lightning device known as Film Viewer.
As discontinuity or defects in part effects density of specimen and hence different amount of radiation reaches different areas of film and thus the area with more exposure had a darker image and the area with less exposure has lighter image.
To understand radiograph and perform interpretation knowledge of defects and part to be inspected is important.
Advantages of Radiographic Testing Film Interpretation
- This method and Technique is not limited by material type or density.
- RT can easily inspect the assembled components.
- The requirement of surface preparation is very low.
- Very sensitive to change in thickness, corrosion, voids, cracks, and material density change.
